The Royal Oak Taproom was totally refurbished in 2008 using high quality oak for the bars and wall panelling to guarantee none of its old charm was put at risk. The inn has been awarded a Cask Marque (for pubs that serve the perfect pint) and has successfully achieved the beautiful beer gold award for 2009 and is again in CAMRAs top ten outlets in the Eden valley probably because there is always up to three award winning cask ales on offer including Hawkshead Bitter brewed in the heart of the Lake District and a personal favourite of Kyle & Jan.
The tap room is now a great place to eat in front of the open fire and has an excellent outside smoking area that includes motion activated heating. Well behaved dogs are very welcome here.
The tap room is a thriving local pub with two dart teams, a domino team a very popular golf and horse racing society and is the headquarters for Appleby Squash and badminton teams. It is also the venue for the Royal Oak annual sausage competition held in April each year. Everyone, visitors and locals are always made very welcome.
