About The Royal Oak
Royal Oak Hotel Appleby
Kyle Macrae and Janice Hunter took over The Royal Oak Hotel in Appleby in April 2006 with the dream of restoring this 17th Century coaching inn to its former glory. They have already brought a more contemporary feel to the lounge and restaurants and further refurbishments are planned for the future.

Royal Oak Hotel Appleby
Born and bred in Appleby, Kyle has always wanted to run a business in his home town. He also has over 18 years’ experience in the licensed trade and so The Royal Oak Hotel gave him the perfect opportunity. It’s very much a family business with the emphasis on excellent value pub food and truly personal service. Sons Lewis and Jake both work for the pub and Kyle’s Mum and Dad Neil and Dorothy help out with the breakfasts, complementing a great team of permanent local staff that guarantee you the highest quality of service whenever you visit.

Jan’s Mam, Eileen, helps with the housekeeping of the cottage and her Dad Les is responsible for the general maintenance of the hotel.

Kyle and Jan couldn’t have given us a warmer welcome when we arrived at The Royal Oak on our honeymoon. You can tell that the whole family takes a real pride in looking after their guests.
