Kyle MacRae and Janice Hunter locals of Appleby in Westmorland have had the Royal Oak since April 2006. Both spent many years away working for Scottish & Newcastle Breweries, Kyle as a Director of Sales and Janice as a Customer Services Manager and latterly as a Sales Manager, only to return to the market town they missed to run the inn they have always loved.
They have spent the last three years painstakingly restoring the Oak to its former glory a massive project that should be completed (If it could ever be possibly be) by the end of 2009.
This really is a family business with 3 generations working there, Janice’s Dad Les is always on hand responsible for the Maintenance and refurbishment, Jan’s Mam Eileen runs the housekeeping team, Kyle’s Dad Neil will be on reception at weekends and his Mum Dot may well serve you breakfast. Kyle’s Son Jake is behind the bar or in the restaurant and his youngest Lewis helps in the kitchen.
They are all passionate about ensuring you enjoy you visit to the Royal Oak and they plan to run this unique inn for many years to come.
